Seeing as Liam Hasn't posted a super trivia question in the last day and it looks like the board needs one I thought Maybe I'd help out and ask where was the most interesting or best venue you've seen a show at. For me:
JGB. eel river campground
GD. Crysler Arena Ann Arbor

I thought Crysler Arena was nice because of it's small size and good feel. One of those "every seat is a good seat" places.

Hartford Civic center has some very steep seating, scary to stand up.

Of the cool places I wish JGB would have played: Landmark Theatre in Syracuse NY.

Interesting place: Barton Hall in 1977. (OK, just kidding ya' all.)

Best takes to long to grapple with now worst for me was the ICC in Berlin, I had a blast in Berlin itself but the scene around the gig was bizarre, scalpers were trampling the scene in a big way. Inside they had desks instead of seats, it was too much like school, and it was the only place in Berlin where I got a Neo-Nazi type vibe. Went the first night and was totally not into the whole place but I should not have sold my second night tickets because the set list and from what I was told (including a dark Star) was much better night two.

If I had to answer your question it would probably be Red Rocks but how hard is that to call.

I must admit peering through the fence at the Berkely CT
(I think that is what they call the outdoor stage on campus)
that would have been a sweet place to see a show!

"well, well you can never tell"

Interesting how many replies you go back then--and some of the names that we haven't heard from in a while.

For me: the old, old venues. Cafe Au GoGo. The Electric Circus. Fillmore East. The theaters--Capitol in Portchester, Academy of Music in Manhattan.

Most interesting was the old bandstand in central park in 1967. Who hell were all these longhairs of where did they come from? Jerry in that paisley turtleneck (man, did I want one of those!).

I grew up a Southern Man, so I'd have to say the Fox Theater in Atlanta. I called in "sick" on a graveyard shift job to camp out for tickets to the 1985 shows. I lost the job, but it was well worth it for both the shows and the overnight ticket party- great people and a good time had by all.

It's the one thing I regret most - never seeing the boys west of the Mississippi - no Alpne Valley mentions? - the place looks cool, East Coast from 81 on had almost no cool venue options - Merriweather Post was ok - how many people in the Fox in 85? - not only did we have no good outdoor venues but all indoors were close to 20k - did anybody goto the Lake Placid show - what was that venue like?
I got to see a few cool JGB shows (a bar in Pougheepskie,NY(sp?) in 81?) with only a thousand people or so - but again, I'm bummed I never got Alpine,Shoreline,Greek,etc..

The Lake Placid venue was the Olympic hockey rink which is really quite small. One level of seating surrounding the floor. No more than 30 rows to the back of the rink. I think it seats 7,000, add the floor and you might get up to 8500-9000.

Shows there lately bring every manner of the law, from state, county and village, with the possibility of the border patrol being nearby if they need to search without warrants. I wonder if it was the same in '83?

i have posted way too much about Lake Acid, but since you guys want to know...

i can't recall the presence of any police or even much in the way of any security (???) and a long ways from the border my girlfriend and i crossed earlier that day...an exceptionally beautiful drive through the mountains in mid October (underestimated the time for the drive, but luckily the band was as late as we were!)

I did not go to Placid but spent my summers there growing up, before it got all the dollars for the olympics it was the greatest small town I had ever been to. I still remember they had a penny arcade where you put a penny in and could watch an old style silent movie. There were no chain names, not even a McDonalds, The Ice Cream places were off the Cow Pastures and they churned it all on the premises. On a clear day you could see the top of Whiteface Mountain or maybe it was Mt. Marcy with snow on the peak and that was sometimes even in the summer. I remember having to flee one August morning because we woke up and it was snowing, by the time we ate breakfast 3 inches on the ground by the time we got out of the mountains they were closing the roads behind us. It was a blast we were still in our shorts too!

The Fox in Atlanta holds just short of 4,700. I guess thats part of what makes it such a memorable time. The theater is intimate and beautiful. It is still hands down the best 2 music nights out I have had before or since. I did enjoy Phil and Friends at the Fox a couple of years ago- but that's a whole other thing...

Cal Expo. Very small compared to all other venues I went to. Shoreline will always get a vote, even though it was built on a dump.
